Something to think about

Just before the end of the working day, my manager asked if she could have a word. There are still two months left on my contract, but she wanted to let me know that as far as she and the company were concerned, they would be happy to offer me a pay rise and a year's extension. All I have to do, is decide whether I want to take it or not before my current contract expires.

How very flattering, esp in this economy. AND they gave you lots of time to think about it.

Congrats - it is nice to have it confirmed that you are doing a good job, yes?

I do feel flattered, and also, relieved. It means I can take my time looking for something a little more exciting...although I must admit that right now, it's not so bad. I'm learning a lot about finances, and although it's not the most thrilling subject, all this knowledge I'm acquiring may come in handy one day.

That's great!

In this economy I'd jump at it! It won't stop you looking around for your next challenge and security, even for a year, is worth having.

Great minds think alike -- really, I don't think I'll need to think about it for long. As you said, in this economy, an offer like this is to be cherished; and they say it's always better to look for a job while you're in one.

I think I'd be inclined to stay, as things are currently in the job market - unless something really cool comes up, of course...

That sounds like a tough decision: security vs. a challenge. Good luck making the decision.

Congrats on the offer. A bird in the hand and all that.

Exactly. I'll probably keep looking, but at least the pressure is off - for a while, anyway.

I'd take it. Later on, when things start to improve, you'll have plenty of time to look for something new.
