Project 365 - Day 20

I spent all day yesterday and most of the day today looking for something - a photo album that belonged to my dad, with pictures taken on his tour of duty in Korea. Even though I can clearly remember bringing it home with me, I can't for the life of me remember where I put it, and it's driving me mad not being able to find it. The Korean War Veterans Association has been in touch; I sort of promised I would have copies made of the photos, to donate to their archive...now I can't deliver.

In the end, I went for a stroll - it was a lovely spring day and I was wasting it indoors. I heard a bird singing to my right, swung around, camera at the ready and...

The robins are back in force here as well, but when I looked at your photo, I reminded myself that your specie is probably a bit different than the North American one. But no matter, they bring thoughts of spring for sure. Thanks for sharing this--it warms my heart.

Yes, they are different species: our robins belong to the flycatcher family while yours are classified as thrushes - or so Wikipedia informs me. I'm not much of an ornithologist myself, and had no idea when I started on this photo project, I'd take so many bird pictures...or would find such a wide variety of birds living on my doorstep, even.

I'm using my squirrel icon for 2 reasons: 1) I don't have a bird icon (yet), and 2) I wish I'd encounter one. They used to live all around us when we were little, but I haven't seen them now for donkey's years.

That's an awesome icon!

I'm fascinated by the effect carrying a camera with the intent to have a photo a day to post. It really made me look at what was around me, and as you know the result was that I became rather infatuated with ducks. And then part of the fun (for me) is learning more about the subjects of my photos, whether ducks or no.

I wish you success in you squirrel hunt :-)

Thank you. However, although I'm not ruling it out entirely, I don't think it likely that I will capture one (in a digital sense, of course) this year. It's disheartening to think how many of the types of birds and animals I was used to seeing in the world around me when I was growing up, have disappeared from view.

And I think that I am becoming more aware of my surroundings now that I carry my camera with me wherever I go...though I must admit, I still feel a bit self-conscious every time I whip it out. I don't know why, but I feel silly taking pictures of everyday objects and occurences.

You know, some people I know are doing a meme where every day has a theme, you know, day one, shoes, day two, me, day three blue etc. Something like that may help you find a subject?

Robins are adorable though.

For example

I've just read the rest of your post (I think I was distracted by the photo) - you know the photos will turn up, you only have one apartment, they must be there somewhere. I often lose stuff in here (doesn't help that Darren moves stuff around), but it always turns up in the end.

You know, that's a really helpful hint, and a great idea! I'll be sure to remember it next time I become stuck.

This is exactly what I've been telling myself for the last 3 days; but so far, I haven't found them yet. I close my eyes and I can picture the album so clearly, and I know that the last time I saw it, roundabout Christmas, it was on the dining table...I must have put it away somewhere, but I can't recall having done so, and I've checked all my usual hiding places...So I've given up looking in the hope that it'll turn up when I least expect it.

Is there any chance that someone else in your family borrowed it? Did you have people over at Xmas? Maybe one of them has it?

Though if it was out before Xmas, the most likely scenario is that you "cleaned" it up before the influx of visitors and you've cleaned it up so well you've put it somewhere un-obvious.

That is exactly what I think has happened, even though at one stage I began hoping against hope that I'd imagined its presence in my home. I even went so far as to text my sister and ask if she might have any idea where that album had got to, and her reply was "I thought you had it?"

Although the album hasn't turned up yet, I have found some other items that -if I remember rightly- were cleared off the table at the same time, which I'm taking as an auspicious sign: the album must be here. Somewhere.
