The 40th International Food Fair of The Hague, and the 2nd with me as Food Booths & Volunteers Coordinator, was held last Saturday. Despite us being in the middle of a triple dip recession, we managed to raise nearly €44,000 (€43,957 to be exact), to donate to good causes around the world.

For the last few weeks, I've been busy helping my mum find somewhere else to live, and hopefully we'll hear from one place that looks promising soon. Back in April, I wrote that she'd been burgled...well, she was burgled again in the last week of October, and this time, whoever came into her flat felt it necessary to trash the place before they left. Mum stuck to her mantra of "this is my home and I'm not moving" for 2 days, before agreeing to let us look at other options more suited to her age and impaired mobility (she acquired a Zimmer frame earlier this year). Fingers crossed, we'll get to arrange her move before I fly out to California.

Which, incidentally, will be in January.

Fantastic. Well done to all - and to you in particular.

I think your Mum is absolutely right to move now, and to find somewhere that will work well for her.

And California in January - woo-hoo! They will think it is cold and wintry - but you'll know better!

I will, indeed! With an average temperature of 19C in the LA area in January, the shock when I come back will hopefully not be too great, either (although I have been told we're heading for another arctic winter over here).

They do say that, like with old trees, it's unwise to uproot old people; but in this instance I think it's entirely necessary and will work out for the best. Luckily, Mum's beginning to show some enthusiasm for the idea, where only a few weeks ago, she was dead-set against it.

I think I might be more excited by your unexpected three weeks in Cali than the new job, but of course, it won't be a holiday so I have to be sensible.

I hope you do find something suitable for your mum soon, is she still frightened to stay in her flat though?

I hope your mom finds the perfect place.

And hooray for California! I wish that wasn't 1500 miles away. ;-)
