The sharpest tool in the box

I've had this computer, and therefore this mouse, for well over a month. And just now, I found out by accident that the protruding bit that looks a bit like a...ahem...nestled between the left and right clicker is NOT a design feature. It's a little wheel that if you touch it when the cursor's on the scrollbar, helps you scroll up and down more easily!

Hee. I wish someone had told me that before.

Don't HP give you scroll wheels, then?

I made a point of looking, and yes, it's there on the hp mouse as well...I don't know, I guess I always thought it was just there to prevent your finger from accidentally sliding from the left to the right clicker...and I always thought it strange that it should look a bit like a...you know. ;-)

Is that what yours looks like? ;-)

No, mine looks like a you know, down there....

A toe?
Dec. 3rd, 2004 08:08 am (UTC)
No...but if it's true what I saw in an episode of Nip/Tuck once, they can fashion one out of a toe...You know, for women who have been 'circumcised'.

Seriously? The toenail must scratch a bit. And can you think of a worse place to get athlete's foot?
Dec. 3rd, 2004 08:13 am (UTC)
Indeed. I was watching that and I went 'ewww!' most emphatically. I'd rather be mutilated than have a toe moved up there, I think.

You can probably also set it to be a third button to do whatever you want,

We tried that on a bunch of doctors once - they got a very falsh freebie mouse with the wheel tuned to take them to a particular website when they clicked on it. They had to do a bit of installing, naturally, but it was 5 year-old level stuff. The help-line rang hot for days and we must have talked every single one of them through how to install it and how it worked. Some more than once. Next time we gave them beach towels.

My mouse is cordless and has two extra buttons on the side to take you backwards and forwards. I keep pressing them at the wrong mo...

Nah...sorry, you've lost me. It's that phrase, "a bit of installing" -- does it to me every time!
Dec. 3rd, 2004 08:00 am (UTC)
In that case install was "Put disc in computer. Whe computer asks if you want to install, press 'yes'." And that was it. Clinicaians! Your life in their hands ::shudder::

Hee! You can't spell!

I know. It's a disgrace. I have porridge for brian today - or brain even. Bloody cold ::coughsplutterwheeze::

I love the wheel for yet another reason. You can hold the (control) key down while scrolling, and it will enlarge the font of what you're reading. Very helpful for middle-aged eyes!
Dec. 3rd, 2004 07:55 am (UTC)
Really? I'll have to try that then, one of these days.
Dec. 3rd, 2004 06:33 am (UTC)
I'm addicted to that little wheel. It saves wear on your wrist when you want to scroll.
Dec. 3rd, 2004 07:54 am (UTC)
It does...it's wonderful! My Spike mousepad is a bit too smooth for the ball to cope with, and I was just getting fed up with having to move it around in exaggerated sweeps for it to take when I found out what the clit-lookalike scroll wheel did. It's so nifty!

Of Mice and Clitorisisisisis
Don't tell me... you were the last kid in your high school to figure out how to masturbate too.

I was a late bloomer, yes.

You are so cute! I thought I was the only person who did things like that ::snuggles you::

You're not alone! ::snuggles you back::
