I don't want to go out

I hate winter. Not the picture postcard variety -I see pine forests covered in a thick layer of snow and I'm raring to go- but the reality of it. Snow is such a rare occurence here; instead, our winters are grey, wet and cold. The kind of cold that seeps through anything, the thickest coat, the sturdiest boots, that settles in your bones and won't leave until halfway through spring...which is another thing: spring seems to be arriving later every year. If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I think I'd like to come back as a grizzly, and have a legitimate reason for skipping the entire season.

As it is, though, I've got to get to work, so I'll wrap up warmly, brave the elements, and get thoroughly chilled hanging around train platforms and bus stops again. It's not just my job and commute, it's my life that sucks lemons today.

It's 30C here, which is surely toasty for you but quite nice for us people in the tropics. It dips to about 25C in the early mornings, which I would welcome if not for the back pains I've been having since the start of December.

As for the lemons, you're not alone. Let's go make some lemonade.

I just noticed your background. Are those your shoes? They're fine looking shoes-es.

At the height of summer, when the temperatures do sometimes shoot up to 30C here, it can feel uncomfortably hot because of the humidity. Still, I prefer it over the cold and wet of winter!

One of the best things about my work as an archaeologist in the late 80s/early 90s used to be though, that in the winter I could easily get myself seconded to digs taking place in North Africa or the Middle East. I love the desert. I don't mind being out and about in the 40C dry heat...just makes the tea break in the shade that much more enjoyable.

Why, thank you -- but no, they're not my shoes. I don't know where bogwitch found the graphic, but when she did, she thought of me, and that's where the background came from.

I made the graphic from scratch. I went round loads of shoe sites (designer, punk, historical - all sorts) and nicked loads of pics, then cut them out and stuck them all together.

I have a non-Spike plain version somewhere.

I like when the weather chooses to do something, but it's just boring and cloudy for far too long.

Oh yes, weather that does things is much more interesting than the miserable greyness of it we have to endure most of the time...

Nice donkey you have there.

Don't I? It's one of dakinigirl's icons.
