Numfar, do the Dance of Joy!

I just burned my first CD! Yes, I did -- and I figured out how to all on my tod:

- locate and download music files - CHECK
- locate and open Nero manual - CHECK
- decide it's written in a language incomprehensible to a person of my limited mental capabilities, and give up in disgust - CHECK
- have a cup of coffee - CHECK
- click on various buttons randomly, and end up somehow converting .WAV to .CDA - CHECK
- find the button that says BURN, and watch in growing despair as it does nothing - CHECK
- have another cup of coffee - CHECK
- decide it probably needs a disk inserted, have a hairy moment when it says it can't find it - CHECK
- take out disk and insert in other station, click OK, hear it whir, and in a panic leave the room - CHECK
- say 10 Hail Marys before daring to creep back in - CHECK

- and hey presto! a CD is made! So who's the Daddy now, then?

My very own audio CD, and it plays on both the computer AND the stereo! Only took me -what?- 3 hours? Pfft...this burning stuff's a piece of cake, really. Next time, I may even whittle the time spent on it down to an hour and a half, maybe? Perhaps I'll even work out how to make the songtitles and artist appear in the playlist...

You're really cooking on gas now.

Actually, I think it may still be a woodburning stove, but...

Mock all you like, I'm pleased with as Punch with the fact that I've finally caught up with 20th century technology (and yes, I do mean twentieth century; it's not a slip of the pen keyboard)! ;-)

CDs? Like, ohmigod! CDs are soooo 90s! I mean… those are like, those things that came before MP3s, right?

;-)

My current technology quandary right now is that I just purchased a DVD burner for my machine. But I need the latest OS for my computer to even recognize it.

And a friend offered to give me her OS.

But it's on a DVD.

Therein lies the rub.

Erm...yes, I suppose so...MP3s...I've heard of them, horrible tales..Fierce creatures that bite, right? ;-)

My PC says it can burn DVDs as well -- I'll have to try that one day, when the palpitations caused by my first foray into the realm of modernity have subsided somewhat...But I do feel for your predicament. Your friend, can't she transfer the OS currently on DVD onto a floppy for you?

Hee! Floppy!

How much would it frighten you if i told you I haven't used a floppy disk for… oh… about 7 years?

But no, I don't think copying the DVD to a disk would work. A floppy disk (and I assume you mean the 3.5 size and not the ancient 5.25 flopies of old) holds about 2.5 MB of info. I'm not sure how much a DVD disc holds, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot more than a CD, and a CD holds about 700 MB. And actually, I just tried installing the new OS from a CD copy of another friend's set of installation CDs. And it's not working. ::sob::

Alas. I scramble to keep up with the march of technology.

Oops. Didn't think of that -- that'd be a whole lot of disks then, wouldn't it?

Sorry the OS installation didn't take. It seems these days that most installation CDs are PC brand and model specific, and won't transpose correctly on different types of computer. I couldn't help my sister out when her system was so riddled with virusses she needed to reinstall, only to find out that the installation disk she thought she'd hidden away carefully from little kids and animals, had somehow been broken in two...

Ha!

After 2 1/2 years, I still have issues in burning CDs. I think that the Nero people make it as hard as they can.

I still use that program occasionally, but I've had much better luck using my Windows Media Player. It's slower, but easier to maneuver.

Windows Media Player, eh? I might give that a try next time...Really, I'm all for simplifying things up! ;-)

Or even easier, drag what you want to burn onto the cd drive in windows explorer.

Windows Explorer? Have I got that?

::looks at list of programmes::

Why, so I have! I really should try to get to know my PC better, shouldn't i?
