Right. Well. Seems it wasn't ZoneAlarm, either...

So, the mystery as to why my Outlook refuses to let me access the inbox continues...but it's a mystery I can live with. I took speakr2customrs's advice and installed Thunderbird instead, and so far, it seems to be working fine. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating, i.e. logging off and trying to get back in again in a couple of hours, but for the moment, I'm basking in the knowledge that I'm once again connected to my mailserver. So thank you, Speaker!

ETA: the weather's atrocious - rain, sleet and hail all at once - and I just saw a green and yellow parakeet fly by my window! Must have escaped from somewhere...can it survive out there? Should I go out and try to catch it, bring it back into the warmth?

I'm glad. :-)

Ouch. Well, speaking from the experience of 18 years of budgerigars, catching small birds is not easy, not even in a semi-enclosed space. Maybe you could call the park-keeper/bird keeper? Of course, your city might not have a park/bird keeper, maybe my city is just odd. I think it can survive in the cold fo a bit - depending on where it lives in the wild, nights can be freezing; but far, far worse is the food issue. Also, they fly very fast, very long, so it might already have gone too far. But you could always try. I'm sorry. I adore birds. :-(

Went out but it was nowhere to be found. I'll just keep my fingers crossed it'll find its way home on its own eventually.

Why? Are the cats hungry?
