Monday morning laugh

One of our Top 500 customers has just complained about a shipment going missing. A minor problem, and one I think to solve with just one or two simple phone calls. I ring our Parts Distribution Centre, and after a while the receptionist says "There's no one to take your call at the moment; I'll put you on hold." And before I can protest, and say I'll call back later, the dulcet tones of 'Suicide Is Painless' fill my ears.

Am I alone in thinking that to include this song in the soundtrack for a technical helpdesk is the height of irony?

It has a certain honesty.

*LOL*

I love that song! - I eventually found a 7" of it in a garage-sale about 10 years ago and got very excited :)

ah the days before music downloads.

It's a classic, isn't it? I love that song too, only before today, I would never have known that it was by Johnny Mandel and Mike Altman...

I wonder, could CoRo ever do a cover?

Hee! Well, I guess encouraging the desperate to kill themselves will lighten their workload...

Just as well we're not in the States -- it could cost hp a fortune in damages!

I rather like the idea! When our new General Hospital opened it had really really up-beat happy happy hold music - I thought it was probably the last thing anyone would want to listen to whilst waiting to find out the state of health of a loved one, or the results of their own blood tests - but now I realise it could have been worse!!

But imagine you're depressed, and have been fighting a losing battle with this company to get your due -- and then they play you this song with its super cheerful message:

The game of life is hard to play
I'm going to lose it anyway
the losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say

That suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

Might give you ideas! ;-)

I was kidding! But just imagine if they'd chosen the same selection for our hospital!! Which now has the Pastoral Symphony - which is quite restful.

or, the pains that are withheld for me/I realise and I can see...

All together now:

That suicide is painless/It brings on many changes?and I can take or leave it if I please!

Ah! such a perky ditty! ;-)

We once received a request to investigate a collection agency. Among other complaints: when on hold, the debtor had to listen to Sting's, "Every Breath You Take."

That's a good one, too!
