Drabble

Now that she knows, she feels relief more than anything. Naturally, she still worries: the consequences of her daughter's calling are too terrible for her not to, but mostly, she's relieved to know there's a reason for her child's failing grades and apparent waywardness. She may not like it, but at least she can understand it, and be as supportive as she can.

She puts the knife away, picks up the sandwiches she's made, and heads for the door. 'One girl in all the world' Buffy may be, but as far as her mother's concerned, she still needs looking after.

In other news: today's felicitations go to girlwithjournal, who hasn't updated in a while, but hopefully is still around in LJ-land somewhere.

I did, yes. But it didn't quite come out as I'd hoped.

I thought it was a very good "mom" voice, and that is how I always see her. What were you wanting?

Not sure...I wanted to bring a touch of levity in there, but I alreadyhad too many words, and couldn't decide on any to take out and try again.

Usually, whenever I drabble, I write it in 2, 3 minutes flat. Joyce, for some reason, took most of the day to complete.

Drabbles usually are pretty quick to write, and if they take longer you've had to think about them too much and they don't feel right.

Also, when I picture the scene, it takes place in the kitchen. Joyce is standing at the island/breakfast bar, making sandwiches to take to Buffy who's out on patrol. But I haven't actually made that clear enough in the text..

I saw that when I read it. Maybe you're over thinking it.

Well -- if that's the sense you got from it, then I think you're right and I am over thinking it -- I'll leave it as is.

That's good - nice Joyce voice, and one we don't hear often enough I think.

And no Xander ;)

And no Xander ;)

Always a plus in your book!

Hey! I've just realised -- he's not in MO/KOM, is he? Huh. I hadn't even noticed...

I can't write him. I did do it once - in the 'Remembering' Spara drabble series he got a set all to himself. But it didn't come naturally.

Plus I had a hard enough time redeeming Giles. Xander would need much more work!
