Maybe next year

It's Leila's fifth fourth birthday today. But since she can't be coaxed out from under the sofa, it doesn't look as if it's going to be one of her better ones.

Oh dear.

My friend was telling me last night about her sister's cat. It woke her sister in the middle of the night and when it wouldn't shut up, she went to check it. It's leg was hanging off by just a bit of muscle and skin. It had been locked indoors, so no one knows how it managed it. The vet fixed it all though with 6 pins in the leg. It cost £3000 to fix! (Lucky it was insured).

She doesn't deserve your congratulations. Hiding away like that, she's a bad kitty.

Oh that poor puss! Thank God it could be fixed without it having to lose its leg, but...oh, poor puss!

One of my cats once woke me up, so I could save one of her kittens from choking to death. It had managed to get its neck caught in some wiring, and was halfway along to hanging itself. He lived a full and contented life after that.

It's amazing really. They're so intelligent. They know who to come to for help.

I've lived with cats for 30 years. Nothing they do surprises me anymore.

You're such a good cat-mom. I don't even know my cats' birthdays. (But I didn't get any of them as small kittens.)

You're such a good cat-mom.

But one who's really bad at arithmetic. She was born in 2001, it's now 2005 -- that makes her 4 today, not 5!

At least you remembered the day.

That's something, I suppose...Though you shouldn't feel bad that you don't know your cats' birthdays. Like you said, you didn't have them from a kitten, so how could you possibly know?

Besides, even though I always wish mine a happy birthday and treat them to their favourite cat food, I don't think they understand what's so special about March 1st (Manasse), April 15th (Leila) or May 10th (Clio) that they get hugged on average 10 times more than usual. ;-)
