I don't know how or when, but I've lost another contact. Great. I've only had these for a year. I got up, went to the bathroom, put in my contacts, made coffee, fed the cats, fetched the newspaper, sat down with it, and found I couldn't read it. Checked in the mirror and sure enough, no contact in my right eye. Retraced my steps, scouring the floor -- nothing. I've ordered a replacement, but it'll take about a week before it's here. Blasted thing, where can it have got to?

I got up early because I had to go to the hairdresser's. The girl turned out to be a perfectionist and took her time, but the result is worth it; for once, I'm not mourning the loss of my tresses. It's a good deal shorter now, which means my curls have all come back, and she's finished it off with some copper highlights in amongst the dark purplish red of my home dye job. It's looking very good, if I may say so myself.

I stopped by the book shop to get some tomes full of tips on assessments and job interviews, because I've decided there's too much at stake now than to trust in my usual technique of just winging it. And as it's been 10 years since I've successfully applied for anything, I figured I could use some help. So, if any of you have any helpful hints you feel you might want to bestow: be my guest! Virtual beer and chocolate all round when I land this job!

And since having heard it for the first time on TotP last night, I just can't seem to get Gwen Stefani's Hollerback Girl out of my head. Such a funny song, but -- what's with the bananas?

Ah yes -- but so far, all I have is images of James Bond running round my brain! ;-)

LOL...I have a feeling it's going to be a bit more boring than that.

You're absolutely right, it most probably will be, but for now it's nice to dream...

And hey! it could happen -- the career opportunities they sketched us do include a possible transfer to the operational side of things...even as a junior Intelligence Officer, you're required to follow a course in field work, with an exam and everything!

Sweet! That would be really cool. I've thought about taking the law degree to the FBI or something like that. Maybe the Justice Department, or dealing with International Human Rights. Wouldn't that be a blast?

Or the International Court of Justice -- you could come and live here! ;-)

I think I'd like that. The living abroad and traveling thing, I mean.
