The home-owner's lament

This morning, I found another puddle on the floor and more toadstools growing in the corner of my littlest room, and decided things couldn't be left as they were for much longer. Obviously, whatever's going on there isn't going to go away by itself, and I was left with no alternative but to call in the plumber. Strangely, since I told them over the phone that I thought the leakage came from the connection to the sewer, they sent someone round who knew about installing boilers and the like, but hadn't yet been trained on how to handle sewer leakages. So now they're sending round an experienced plumber tomorrow...and I've been warned that in order for them to do a proper, not a patch-up job, the cost will be...well, they didn't say 'prohibitive', but I got the impression the repairs may end up costing me a pretty penny. Don't know where I'm going to get the money from, but I felt I couldn't go back to ignoring this problem, now that I know it exists. Oh, why did I ever decide to get onto the property ladder? If I'd stayed in rented accommodation, this sort of thing would have been the landlord's responsibility to sort.

Now, on top of all this worry, I've also got the mother of all colds to deal with. Please God I get that job. It'll help towards the bill, and I'm due a break.

Eek! Toadstools is NOT a good sign! Best luck in trying to get it all fixed.
