Flotsam and jetsam

Busy day at work again, but I've just remembered that I still have 40 days of holidays left. That's 8 weeks -- and with 3 months left in this year, if I take 2 weeks off each month I'll still have 2 to add to next year's quotum, bringing my total for 2004 up to a respectable 7 weeks. Sounds like a plan to me!

It turns out I missed Fran at the airport on Sunday because the silly moo had e-mailed me the wrong bloody date of arrival - and then I missed her distress call as I'd forgotten to switch on my mobile. This is something that I do quite often; I keep my mobile for emergencies only, and as I don't expect to be dealing with any, I fail to respond when one presents itself. ;-)

Apart from the minor upset suffered on Sunday (& continuing into Monday), the weekend hasn't been that bad. After 2 years of cost cutting initiatives preventing the event from taking place, we finally had a hp picnic again this year. In the past, these company outings were major social events and lots of work, preparation and money went into them - this year it was just a simple gathering at the beach with a bouncy castle for the kids; but the weather was absolutely fantastic, warm and sunny, and so I wasn't sorry I'd elected to come and bring my sister's kids.

Went to catch a movie with a friend that evening, and we chose The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in which Sean Connery (ah-Sean Connery!) reprises his role of Dr. Henry Jones, Sr in the third Indiana Jones-film. This film, however, isn't in the same league or anywhere close. It's alright if you like explosions, but the story is rubbish while the characters have no depth or development at all. Nice idea, but...how does a gigantic submarine manage to maneuver itself into the Venice lagoon, let alone Venice itself? and, if he knows that clapping eyes on his portrait is his downfall, why doesn't Mr. Gray simply close them when confronted with the painting?

Had lunch with another friend on Monday, and plotted our weekend away in Brussels this Saturday and Sunday...we're taking the Spider out for a spin again.
I've never been to Brussels...well, not that I can remember...it's only a couple of hours away but I don't think I've ever had a reason to go there before. Still don't, but it seems like as good a destination as any to me now.
