Football is war, and never more so than today

I'm in a foul and irritable mood. I snapped at a co-worker who posed a legitimate but in my eyes extremely stupid question, and I'm not going to apologise for it because he is a wanker anyway, as is everyone who gets to leave work in time to witness the kickoff and then gets to watch the entire match tonight. Me, I won't get home until after the final whistle has been sounded, and it's all thanks to the fact that they've changed the bus schedule at the beginning of this month. Had things stayed the same, I might have caught the last 20 minutes.

I'm especially finding fault with those office tigers who have come into work wearing orange jerseys - why couldn't they have taken the day off and left me to get on with my work in peace and quiet?

Also, even if I'm happy for my English friends that their country's gone through to the next round (or nearly), I can't help but feel sorry for T&T and the Socca Warriors -- they were so close to another draw. England disappointed in the first half, and really didn't do much better in the second, so I don't think they really deserved to win. I would have love for T&T to have gone through to the last 16...

In this morning's paper, the Ivory Coast coach was quoted as saying they hadn't come to the tournament to be sent back home in the second week, so they were going to go into this match focused and intending to win...which should make it an interesting game to watch, seeing as how Ivory Coast fields a strong team even when they're not particularly imbued with the will the win.

Oh I do hope my countrymen can beat them! Hup, Holland, hup!

ETA: toned it down a bit. Rants, by their very nature, are short on nuance, but still...no need to upset anyone.

Holland-Ivory Coast

Well, they won.

I got home just in time to see the final quarter hour, but there wasn't much there to get excited about. Ivory Coast seemed to have a better idea of what they were about than our lot, but Lady Luck was smiling on Oranje and they won: 2-1.

Next up though, it'll be Argentina, who won against Serbia-Montenegro 6-0.
