The news this week

Hallelujah! My working week is done. It's been a particularly gruelling one, what with the unpleasant annual performance evaluation euphemistically known as the Focal Point Review, but now I've got a nice long weekend coming up and I intend not to waste it. I haven't actually made any plans yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something to while away the hours that doesn't involve hanging around cold and dreary platforms waiting for a train or a bus that never comes.

We had an early Sinterklaas on Sunday and Romeo, that little rascal (who, incidentally, is 4 today) had the time of his life unwrapping his and everybody else's presents and yelling "Thank you Sinterklaasje!" after each package had been opened. I don't think he was too impressed with the cuddly toy I'd Sinterklaas had given him, but the rest of the family were (or professed to be) quite pleased with the gifts I'd he'd brought this year. Me, I got a chocolate letter H, a music DVD, and shoe pr0n -- i.e. a catalogue of designer shoes my sister had brought back with her from a recent trip to Paris.

The rest of the week was just busy with work, so busy that I didn't have time to update or check my flist. I'm woefully behind on all your news, but I'm hoping to catch up with what's been going on in all your lives tomorrow or the day after. Sinterklaas visited our office on Dec 5th, as is his wont, bringing several of his helpers, but I didn't stay around as I had a train to catch. Which in the end, due to a points failure, turned out to have been cancelled and so it took me almost 4 hours to get home that day. Anyhoo, you might like to see our good St. Nick and Zwarte Piet Nos. 1-8:

especially if you're from that part of the world that has to forgo his yearly visit. Yup, that's him, the beardy old man in the mitre.

I had my FPR on Wednesday and it wasn't good, with Jobsworth telling me I really needed to ship up and although he privately was willing to accept that I may have had some problems over the last year, since apparently the company doctor (that snake in the grass!) had not concurred with my GP's assessment of me as suffering from burn-out, he couldn't excuse my lapses of concentration and productivity and felt it necessary to admonish me that my lacklustre performance would not be tolerated for much longer. So sack me -- at least then, I'll retain my right to benefit if I can't find another job soon. I hope I will, though. That commute is simply killing me. I'm just going to have to redouble my efforts after Christmas.

I saw Lord of War last night; it's a film I recommend you see. It purports to be an insider's look into the international world of gunrunning, and although I'm by no means an expert, I do believe it gives a fairly accurate account of a business that isn't quite legit, but isn't quite illegal either. Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto do great performances of the hardnosed yet conscientious arms dealer and his fatally flawed, but ultimately decent brother.

Boggy and I are threatening to re-publish this year if we can get our act together in time.

It'd be great if you could!

So? I've also got the print-out, but I can pretend I don't!
