Use your loaf!

How stupid can some people get?

I just heard of the latest escalation in which an employee of the Belgian Royal Library, charged with scanning in a 14th century parchment, took the document, wax seals and all, and fed it through the ADF unit on a LJ9000LMFP. Not surprisingly, it got stuck.

Following the instructions of our technical support helpdesk, they managed to retrieve the priceless parchment, but not without tearing it. And now they want hp to pay damages?!

OMG -- it doesn't bear thinking about! If i were a restorer, I'd much rather have the document be in tatters than stuck back together with tape. That stuff's nasty!

The first thing they teach you in any book/archival conservation course is that SCOTCH TAPE IS EVIL!!! I wince whenever I see that some well-meaning (or stupid) soul has tried to put something old and rare back together with it. ::shudders::

I took a very basic course of restoring techniques in uni. The first rule in paper restoration: cellotape is the mother of destruction.
