Yawning my way through Saturday

I'm so, so tired. It's been a busy week and I haven't sat still for a moment; nothing interesting, mind, just the normal every day stuff, work and house owner association meetings. The apartment block's 5-yearly paint job is due again this year and I'm on the maintenance committee, so we've been going over the finances and the tenders, and I've been showing contractors and representatives of the short-listed housepainters round the complex. On top of which, I've spent several nights running all possible checks on my system and upgrading my security options, because after receiving that phishing e-mail (and stupidly and against advice clicking the link contained therein) earlier in the week, I didn't feel entirely secure anymore. I contacted my credit card companies and they assured me no unauthorised withdrawals had been made in recent days, then humoured me by promising they would monitor my accounts for the next week or so...but I still didn't get much sleep for worrying.

Anyway, that's all in the past now. My system is clean, my money is safe, my report has been written up, printed off, and dropped into all my neighbours' letterboxes; and all that remains for me to do is my annual tax self-assesment, which was due in April 1st (but I was in England then). So I had hoped to have a bit of a lie-in this morning, but sadly, it wasn't to be: I had to get up before the crack of dawn -or almost- to stand a chance of getting 4 tickets to Dutch supergroup Kane's Malieveld concert on August 26th before they sold out. Mission accomplished, my sister owes me a whopping amount of cash...and possibly a cup of strong black coffee, too ;-)

Seems all I do this week is buy tickets...I finally got my ass in gear and purchased a ticket for the London Wireless Festival on June 25th, where I shall once again find myself in the company of _mysteria_ and freakspawn, and bogwitch, to enjoy the dulcet tones of Thomas Dolby, Bauhaus, Goldfrapp and Depeche Mode (again!). I've booked my flight and a day off work, but I'll leave finding accommodation to a later date.

Next, I'll go into town because there's a sale on funky-coloured blinds on and I want to see if any of them are for me. It'll be 9 years since I bought this flat soon and 9 years since I've decorated, and my curtains are starting to look decidedly tatty. The kitchen could do with a new lick of paint as well, but I'm saving that job for a time I feel less likely to fall asleep while standing up.

Ouch, were you told that just clicking on a link could cause security problems with the phishing email? Because I recently did that, though I gave them no account info. The one I had for Chase was a very sophisticated one, with nagivable links and all. But I still figured it was fake, and called to check it out.

I'm on a Mac, so somewhat less susceptible to viruses and spyware, but there's new stuff out there all the time.

Exactly. I was wary of the mail the moment it came in, but still curious enough to click on the link. It looked like PayPal, but it didn't feel like it really was PayPal, so I didn't give in any information but forwarded it to spoof at paypal dot com. I received a message back confirming that it had't come from them, and they included tips to make sure no harm was done.

I spoke to one of my computer wiz friends and he advised me to delete and re-upload Spybot, to see if clicking the link had installed any kind of spyware on my system. I did and found 4 of these little buggers. That's when I panicked, and started calling my credit card companies, after which I cleaned up my whole system. I believe I may have overreacted a bit, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Not seen me around? But - I'm always here!

Was thinking of you the other day. What with the return of spring, we ought to be making plans for a get-together again soon...
