Yesterday, while pretending to be a pirate, my nephew wacked me in the face with a piece of wood. He got 15 minutes on the Naughty Step; I got a weekend stay in a topnotch Brussels hotel by way of an apology. Though I won't dare show my face there before this shiner's gone down a bit...

I'm really up against it at work, and I don't know if I'll get much of a chance to update this week. Can I survive a week without LJ? We're about to find out!

It's not easy explaining that you've been beaten up by a 4-year old, I tell you. Poor boy was more shocked than I was. He was tearful and clingy for a long time after he was allowed off the step.

I was amazed to see that it works, though. He hates having to spend time on the Naughty Step, but he does stay put...I wish my parent's generation had thought of so simple a punishment.

It's great that it works, and I know just how he feels. I accidentally hit my brother once (no, really, it was an accident. We were goofing off), and I felt worse than he did.

Well, in Romeo's case, I don't think it was all that accidental; though I'm sure he hadn't meant to hit me quite that hard. He just wanted to be a fearsome pirate, looking cool while swashing his buckle. He's too young really to think about consequences much.
