2.04 The Girl in the Fireplace

Yes. Well. What can I say? A good and enjoyable episode, if a little jumbled up in places (half the time I didn't know what was going on) and very bittersweet at the end. Poor Doctor.

And poor Rose! What is going on with her and Ten? Definitely not what was going on with her and Nine, that's for sure. 'Dancing' with Reinette...bad Ten! Bad, bad Ten!

Rose, that single tear. She looked so lost and forlorn, and utterly devoid of hope when he didn't return. Actually, she seemed quite ill at ease all through the episode, and who can blame her? One minute, she's happy, safe and secure with Nine (they were solid, right?), then he goes and regenerates on her and starts chasing after other women. Bye-bye soulmate, hello show-off!

Pretending to be drunk Doctor was kind of funny -- but one thing I'll never get is why baddies always stop in their tracks, allow themselves to be distracted, and stand around to listen to whatever the good guy's blathering on about instead of just getting on with it and (in this case) slicing up Rose and Mickey and Mme de Pompadour.

Yay! for Arthur, the way he crashed through that mirror. That'll do, horsey, that'll do!

Mickey -- love him.

Glad all was explained at the end, when it transpired that the ship was called the SS Madame de Pompadour. So that's why they wanted her brain for their computer, and no one else's would do.

All in all, it was a bit silly, wasn't it?
