2.05 Rise of the Cybermen

When I saw Roger Lloyd-Pack coming down the stairs into the bar last month, I had no idea I'd be seeing him in Doctor Who just a few weeks later...and that can only be a good thing. I much prefer to think of him as poor harmless Trigs, rather than mad invalid scientist.

Hmmm, Cybermen. Shiny new scary Cybermen. Although, scary? I was much more afraid of them in the old days, when they were so obviously extras in silver lycras. Still, they look really spiffy in their 21st century Robocop 'exoskeletons'. Bit hard to understand what they're saying, though. Need a bit of work on the old voice box.

Would real streetwise homeless people really fall for the 'there's food and drink in the back of this huge lorry'-ploy? Loved the shot of the saw and pincers, and the sounds of The Lion Sleeps Tonight drowning out the screams of the victims.

Best bit: Mickey in his underpants. Boy, that boy is fit!

Speaking of Mickey -- he was the best thing in this episode. Liked that he got a bit of a backstory, liked that he went off on his own and had an adventure, and liked that he had Mona Hammond for a grandmother...but that street she lived on? Didn't look like any street in London I've ever seen.

The TARDIS, dead? Nah, that can't be. Never! Oh good, one tiny spark remains, and all The Doctor has to do is blow on it. He just gave away 10 years of his life, but what's 10 years to him? He's already close to his 1,000th birthday.

He didn't exactly do much this time, did he, that Doctor?

And me! What a night that was; Roger Lloyd-Pack, Richard Wilson, Joe McFadden, Alan Rickman and us all in the same place at the same time -- whoever would've thunk that?
