Mothering Sunday

...or Mother's Day, whichever you want to call it. I went round to Mum's and naturally, found the rest of the family there too. I had hardly sat down when my 4-year old nephew, carrying a fly-swatter in each hand and explaining that they were swords, challenged me to a duel. For the next few minutes, I didn't let him touch me, and whooped his butt in the process while his mother and brother laughed and told him that for once, he'd picked the wrong person to fight. Didn't he know his aunt could fence?

Of course he didn't. I gave up fencing years ago, and I kind of felt sorry that without really meaning to, I had blocked his every attack; so I got up out of my chair, intending to put a stop to our sparring. Romeo looked around him, uncertain for a moment, then attacked with renewed vigour, and again, I reacted in the same way, blocking his moves and parrying his strokes, all the while easily scoring hit after hit on his little torso and buttocks. I had just decided I would let him get past my defenses on his next try before he got totally humiliated, when I noticed that he had suddenly started to mirror me, dropping into position (though not quite into the proper balance yet) and putting his body behind his fly-swatter arm, thereby presenting much less of a target, before coming at me again. We crossed swatters like this for a few more minutes before I let him hit me in the stomach, after which I made a great show of having been killed ded, and Romeo was cock-a-hoop again. But I've got to hand it to him: the boy shows promise. Maybe we should nurture that.

Now, can anybody tell me: how the devil do I get those mp3-s to download onto my player? You'd think there'd be a chapter in the User's Guide, but no.

Does the Creative website have a downloadable manual?
May. 14th, 2006 05:44 pm (UTC)
Yes, I already checked it out. But it assumes you already know how to do this sort of stuff -- as does the crappy software itself. :(

I'm afraid I'm no help then. I specifically chose one that that just acts like another hard drive.
May. 15th, 2006 05:39 am (UTC)
Never mind. I'll just keep fiddling with it. ;-)

mine had a craptastic manual too - in the end I found an online forum community that was a godsend! But for getting the buggers on there in the first place I can justdrag/drop or copy/paste from C: to F: drive when it's plugged in to my puter.

A guy at work has a Creative -- he says that's exactly how this is supposed to work too. I must be doing something wrong, cos when I plug it in, all I get is a notice to say that the bloody thing's attached, and that's where it all comes to a halt.

I've been thinking abot getting an MP3 player for the gym, now I know to look for one that is user friendly.
May. 15th, 2006 08:45 pm (UTC)
Good luck with that! And look for one that is shock resistant, too. ;-)

Isn't it just a case of plug player into USB port, computer recognises it and opens it as a new drive on your computer then you just copy and paste? All mine have done that. Maybe you need to download drivers. hmmm.

That may very well be the case....or it must be something very similar. However, when I plug it in, all I get is a little pop-up to say there's a Creative Zen attached, and that's all that happens.

With regards to my mp3 player, I'm beginning to feel the urge to stomp on it...

A propos of nothing, I was here to check out what had happened to you, I hadn't seen or heard from you in ages (on LJ) and now I realize you're very much here, and I just futzed something on my filters, I guess... Stoopid me! I'll go and fix it. Whatever is wrong...Glad you're still going strong, except for that high heels thing...
May. 18th, 2006 12:56 pm (UTC)
See? Now that's why I don't have any filters -- well, that and I simply can't be shagged.

You alright? Still hard at work on your novel, I understand...We ought to think about meeting up again some time fairly soonish, don't you agree?
May. 18th, 2006 01:32 pm (UTC)
We should, coz otherwise I'll be in Canada for weeks and Switzerland and England after that....sigh. I hate traveling...
May. 18th, 2006 08:18 pm (UTC)
You do? I'll trade you! I love to travel, me...

After Whitsun, then?
May. 18th, 2006 08:23 pm (UTC)
Which is like, Pinksteren? I'm bad at dates. Is that May 29th?
May. 18th, 2006 08:32 pm (UTC)
Dates? I'm no good with them. But it's next weekend, I think...or the one after that? Oh hell, now you've made me get up to check my diary...

...it's June 4-5. When will you be going?
May. 19th, 2006 03:37 pm (UTC)
June 11th. So before that, please...
May. 20th, 2006 12:30 pm (UTC)
So...how's about next weekend then? Or, I could see about getting the Wednesday following off...
May. 20th, 2006 12:59 pm (UTC)
I can't be definite yet about next weekendd - might have to have the kids birthday parties then. Wednesday is painting night. Maybe take instead that Thursday off? I'll get back to you on that. I have to do something about those parties, anyway, soon.
May. 22nd, 2006 12:33 pm (UTC)
Maybe take instead that Thursday off?

Sure, why not? Let me know when you can.
May. 22nd, 2006 03:06 pm (UTC)
Painting for coming Wednesday has been canceled...I've forgotten by now which Thursday we were talking about...let's switch to email, kay?
