El fútbol total

Half an hour before kickoff...My distant relation (my sister's ex-mother-in-law's nephew, and therefore her children's second cousin and our second cousin once removed through marriage), our coach Marco van Basten has just revealed which players he'll be fielding. Regardless of which side will end up group winner, I'm sure it's going to be a great match to watch. If you look at all the previous times Holland have played against Argentina, they have always been spectacular, not least because the Argentines play in the tradition of the Dutch school of football: totaalvoetbal, or in Spanish "el fútbol total".

In the audience, our crown prince and his Argentinian wife. And I'm sure Maradona will be there again as well. Oh yes, it's probably going to be a wonderful match to watch.

ETA: Half-time, and 0-0. A few chances for Argentina, but none they could cash in on. Let's hope the 2nd half will add a little more spice.

ETA2: And Argentina are group winner on goal differential. Not bad. They done well. And so did we.

It was a well-played match. And I love your orange uniforms!

It certainly was, with both teams evenly matched. I would have liked a little more fireworks, but I think we can all be happy with the result; and I'll even go so far as to say that I wouldn't mind if it's Argentina that take home the cup at the end of the tournament.

And I love your orange uniforms!

It's not a colour that suits everyone equally well, but what can you do: it's our national colour! I only wish the shorts weren't bermuda length these days...

Yeah, the shorts have gone from one extreme (far too small and tight) to the other. What's wrong with seeing a man's knees?

Or with them flashing a bit of thigh? Footballers have such lovely thighs...IIRC. ;-)

Yay for football. Everyone else's matches have been so much more exciting than ours. woe.

Pah. You've just been unlucky in your group. No real challenges there. It should be better from here on in. You'll get your chance to really shine yet.

We're up against Portugal next, on Sunday. But I'll be at the Wireless Festival and I won't see it...woe.
