I was awakened by a loud, angry buzzing and opened my eyes to see Manasse chasing a big fat bumble-bee. I picked up a shoe (there's plenty of those lying around) and whacked it. I thought I'd killed it, but when I bent to pick it up and throw it in the bin, it obviously had some life left in it, and it stung me! I hadn't been stung since I was a child. I'd forgotten how much it hurts.

"Was you ever stung by a dead bee?"

(Cupie doll to the person who knows where that quote's from.)

"They can hurt more than the live ones, you know" -- Bacall and Bogart, that same film where she tells him "You know how to whistle, doncha? You just put your lips together and blow"...but what's it called?

Do you have an antihistamine? That might ward off any swelling or allergic reaction. Ice will help if the stung spot swells.

I got stung in the middle of the night in Helsinki. Some bee just blew into my hotel room and wandered around my big room until he decided to commit suicide and scare me. I didn't figure out why I'd woken in the middle of the night with arm pain until morning, when I saw my swollen arm and his carcass.

I'd forgotten how painful, too!

No, it's alright -- I've taken a sewing needle to my thumb and sucked out the sting; the top of my thumb's swollen a bit and it's painful bending it, but other than that, it's okay. I'm glad I'm not allergic to its poison; and that I managed to save my cat from a similar fate.

Ouch!

I'm on of those people who can't kill things, not even wasps or hornets and I'd never kill a bee , or a spider and I'm terrified of spiders so I spend a lot of time escorting these things out of the house ( not the spiders, I can't bear to go near them let alone try to catch them) .

Never been stung by a bee or by anything I was trying to recuse but I did tread on a wasp by accident last year ( it was in my shoe!) and that was quite startlingly painful.

You have my sympathy

I've got great respect for spiders; I'd never kill them (well, not unless they went after my moggies in which case hell hath no fury) but anything else is fair game as far as I'm concerned. And this bee (well, hornet actually, but it was early and I couldn't find the right word), coming into my bedroom, was just dicing with death.

Well erm...very. I mean, at first you feel a little prick (like a pin prick), and you think "oh, that's not so bad" and a few seconds later, you go "OWOWOWOWOW!!!" and it feels as if the stung limb is on fire.
