Just so as you know:

LJTalk. I won't be using it.

Me neither. I still haven't figured out WHY I would want to post from my cell phone.

I fear I'm becoming a bit of an old fuddy-duddy, but I just don't see the point.

You're an old-skooler. ;-)

That's a kind way of putting it....thanks! ;-)

I think I'm getting old, because the new-fangled things aren't looking so shiny.

The new-fangled things look totally redundant to me. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm already behind the times and don't text and don't IM anyway...

I'm currently taking LJ Talk for a spin. Just the internet messenger service using Jabber, and not the voice over IP function. My main question is really about functionality: why would I switch to LJ Talk if I am already able to chat with LJ friends using another IM service (Yahoo, for ex.). The thing with LJ Talk is that it really is a Jabber implementation, which means that to use it with your LJ friends you have to (1) download and install a jabber client, (2) set-up your jabber account, (3) convince your LJ friends to also do steps 1 and 2. It looks easy technically, but sociologically not an easy sell. Most Netizens are already locked into a certain mode of using networking technology and tools, so the real challenge would be why should we adapt a new tool that basically has the same features as an older tool which you are already using.

What you said - I already use google talk and AIM to talk to people, why would I want to add another service? I may test it out, possibly - but chances are, I won't.

Exactly! You are so right in everything you've said.
