Koninginnedag 2007

Today is a national holiday, called Koninginnedag (i.e. Queen's Day), and much to my surprise Jobsworth decided some time last week that he didn't need me to come in. At first, I toyed with the idea of joining the festivities in Amsterdam, but my last physiotherapy session's left me with quite a hurty leg, so I went into town to see what was going on there instead. For once, I thought to bring a camera!

Obviously, some people enjoyed being driven around in a horse-drawn carriage

while others had a nose round the flower market

and the kiddies went on the merry-go-round

I pass a woman holding an enormous candy floss

the sound of distant drums...

becomes that of drums being played very near

and now I've had enough and head for home

There is something weird about glorious weather on national holidays!

not complaining!

The weather's been wonderful these last few weeks. Sadly, they say it'll all be over come the weekend -- just when I've switched my heating off (it's a bugger to start up again, so I won't bother) :(.

That looks like a good way to spend a day.

Indeed, I can think of worse ways...although if you really want to have fun on Queen's Day, you go to Amsterdam. The whole city centre is turned into a giant car boot sale overnight, and the place is packed.
