Uh oh

Why is there no simple on/off switch to my new TV? I mean, it's got a switch labelled power on/off tucked away on the side, and it's got a power on/off-button on the remote, but all either one of these does is put the thing in stand-by mode?!

The manual is pretty clear about it, too: 'use the power on/off switch on the device, or the power on/off button on the remote control, to switch to stand-by mode'. And in the small print it recommends, that if you go on holiday, you do not forget to disconnect the power lead and the aerial cable, to save energy (and protect against possible fire hazards, although it doesn't say that of course) and switch it off completely.

WTF? I've got to unplug it every night if I want to be sure it's off? What's wrong with an old-fashioned on/off button that actually, you know, switches things on or off depending on your need?

save the planet!!

Fuck all that; I just don't want a fire hazard in my house, esp. since I'm hardly ever there...

ummm potty mouth

I guess we just live and sleep with a fire hazard instead of getting ours bums off the sofa to switch it on.

I never claimed to be sensible ;)

Ummm sorry! I'll go wash it out with soap, okay? ;-)

My sister and her family lived through a housefire once. Since then, I've become extra vigilant -- though I still set fire to my kitchen not 5 weeks ago, didn't I?
