Weighty matters

Ten minutes ago, I was elated: by finally deigning to use one of those infernal treadmills at my physiotherapist's, and noticing that it displayed weight, heart rate and time in flickering red LEDs, I found out I currently weigh in at 75 kg exactly. 75 kilos*! That means that over the summer, I've lost 15!

That was before I logged on to the web and calculated that my BMI is 26, which means that I'm still overweight. Apparently, there's another 15 to come off before I reach the ideal weight for my height. :(

* 75 kg= 165.3466966387 lb; 15 kg = 33.0693393277 lb

Surely gender makes a difference to the ideal, doesn't it?
No - they use exactly the same calculation and the same definitions of what constitutes each category from underweight to morbidity - which is why it is now being seen as not really any less crude a measurement than the old 'average weight for height' charts.

So really what I should be doing, is not take too much notice of all the graphs and charts, and just go on as I have before, blithely unaware of all these kinds of prescripts...I can do that!
