I feel like I want to kill something

Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhh! What is it with me and mp3-players? I've been trying all night to get this thing to work, and I. just. can't. get it to.

I hate technical issues. I hope you can get it figured out.

Well, if all else fails, I can always take it back to Dixons and persuade Paul to give me another one...

What's wrong with it? Maybe I can help.

Well...step 1 said to load the s/w -- so I did. Step 2 in the manual said to charge the player for up to 5 hours -- so I did that. Step 3 then talked of changing the localisation, but I skipped that because I'm perfectly happy with the default language. Step 4, ostensibly was for transferring files. That's where it all went wrong: there's 2 s/w apps installed and one just says that the device is not compatible and then exits; and the second, Creative Media Source, can't detect it and says it's not connected...when it is!

Meanwhile, the player itself just continues to charge up from the USB port on my computer.

Any ideas?

Darren's got one of those Zen:Ms (I think). I gave it to him for Xmas last year. I don't remember him having any trouble with it, but he does seem to have to reset it often to get it to shut down properly.

I'm not going to give you any useless advice except to say his works. Which may or may not be helpful. He's running it with the supplied software on a Dell laptop with XP Pro, if that's any use.

Take a break and come back to it, I find that often helps me.

Have taken the break, but it hasn't helped. The supplied s/w just doesn't recognise the device, which means it's completely useless to me at present. And Creative are taking their time getting back to me...:(
