End of year blues

Lately, I've not been feeling myself inasmuch as I can't seem to muster any enthusiasm for anything. It's a most peculiar feeling not to be able to care about whether to update this journal, for instance. I can't remember the last time I felt so uninspired. Not that anything much has been happening in my life really, although that's never stopped me from writing before.

This year's Christmas hamper didn't contain much to write home about: 2 hotplates, a decorative candle, an oven glove and matching apron, a tea towel, a food container, a bottle of wine, some olive oil and a little jar of course sea salt. I opened it at the busstop, and a Moroccan lady sitting next to me ooh-ed and aah-ed over every item I dug up from the box, so I gave it all to her except for the wine, the oil and the salt which I kept for myself. "Happy Eid al-Fitr!", I said. She couldn't believe her luck.

I got a rude awakening at the cashpoint yesterday, when I went to get some grocery money. It told me I couldn't take out more than 47 euros. I know I've been spending money hand over fist these last two months, putting together a new wardrobe to replace the skirts, tops and trousers that have suddenly become too big for me, and having a few items altered, but I had no idea I'd been going through my reserves so quickly. Part of it's my own fault, for never bothering to apply to extend my overdraught no matter how much better off I am now as compared to twenty years ago when I was making do on a student loan, but still...It's going to have to be a very frugal Christmas this year.

I'm being a bit bleugh about updating, too. I have much sympathy with you over the state of the bank balance - mine is not quite that low this year, but there have been times in the past...

The state of the bank balance is a bit worrying at present, but I expect to be solvent again before the New Year. After all, it's just my current account that's been depleted, and I am due some moneys soon.

Still, I can't believe how our politicians can still maintain that the euro hasn't made life a whole lot dearer than it was when the guilder was our currency.

Eee! That's not a lot to get you through! :(

I empathise with your lack fo enthusiasm. The main reason I posted twice this week was a) because people asked how the move went and I was too shattered to tell the full story, so I told them to check my LJ and b) I've been on night shift, which means a whole lot of time where there's only simple work to do, and plenty of time to blog/surf/play spider solitaire. :)

play spider solitaire. :)

Hee! I've become somewhat addicted to playing The Rise of Atlantis recently -- basically, it's a simple game of three-in-a-row, but it's kept me up well past my bedtime all through last week ;-)

Aw! Not going shopping with me then? I'll feel bad if I'm the only one buying. Maybe we can do a movie instead? (With me shopping beforehand and you pretending not to see the bags?]

A movie? That sounds like fun! Is there any one in particular you have in mind (I think Enchanted could prove a good choice, but I'm open to suggestions)?

As to the shopping...well, I do have a Bijenkorf card...

Enchanted sounds good - or Golden Compass? I tend to watch movies from my couch, so I'm not that up to the last batch...
I've been wanting to visit the COS store, so shall we do your city?
Dec. 17th, 2007 03:01 pm (UTC)
Fine! When can you make it here?
Dec. 21st, 2007 06:09 pm (UTC)
Ha, finally out of the pre-Christmas rush. I can do Thursday to Sunday. When? I'd prefer not to be home too late, so maybe a matinee?
Dec. 21st, 2007 07:49 pm (UTC)
Thursday? Won't you be too knackered/bloated/hung over from the last of the Yuletide celebrations the day before, do you think?

Let's make it the Saturday, then. Not that I need it for shopping/going to the flics, but my arm should be back to good working order by then.

*hugs* I've had days (and weeks and months) like that, where nothing really catches your interest. It's bothersome. I hope you're feeling more yourself soon.

Thank you. I'm sure I'll snap out of this funk...although I don't expect it to be any time before the return of the warm weather. Why can't we humans hibernate?

How good you are to have gifted the Moroccan lady with your hamper stuff. I'll bet you pronounced her holiday correctly, too.

I relate to the tightness of money, also the "meh" about updating. I've had two pay periods that I just squeaked by. Outfitting the kiddo caused me to overextend myself.

Commiserations on the financial situation; I hope it will improve soon.

I'll bet you pronounced her holiday correctly, too.

I hope so. My Arabic is decidedly rusty these days.

I know how you feel. This is going to be my poorest Christmas too.

I'm looking on it as a challenge...or something from a Dickens novel ;-)

I hope you, His Lordship and Bilbo will have a wonderfully merry Christmas together!
