Went to work, had a long conversation with Jobsworth in which he showed himself susceptible to reason, laid tentative plans with one of my colleagues to go see Wicked in December, and booked a hotel room for my stay in London next month.

All in all, not a bad day, really.

Wait, how did you get from conversations with HR to being face-to-face with Jobsworth?

Has he backed down from his impossible "you must have no time to sit or sleep" demands?

I haven't spoken with HR yet (these things take time to arrange). But I thought I'd grab the bull by the horns, and with the element of surprise on my side for once, went in and confronted him. Of course we'll heave to see what, if anything, comes of all his fine words.

I spoke to the company doctor today; he said he was going to have a word with HR on my behalf, put in some recommendations/suggestions of his own as to how the situation can be improved. I'm thinking maybe they can facilitate me in some course, that will help bulk up my cv and ultimately improve my chances of finding other more suitable employment. It's worth a try, at least.

YAY! I'm glad that Jobsworth is actually susceptible to reason.
