These shoes rock!

Of course, I can't be in London and not buy shoes. So as soon as I woke up on the second day of my visit, I hurried into town and found me these babies by Irregular Choice:

Only £64.99 and worth every penny. Unfortunately, they didn't have them in my size so I had to order them. If all goes well, they should be delivered to my home address by the end of the week. I also bought myself a pair of Madrids in light blue. It's funny, I always used to think of Birkenstocks as pretty darn ugly, but that was before Crocs appeared on the scene and redefined the concept of ugliness for me.

... but that was before Crocs appeared on the scene and redefined the concept of ugliness for me.

So. I've been living in Colorado, near the home of Crocs HQ. During that time, I was often the only person in any crowd not wearing Crocs, and I was usually the only person wearing socks. (Love socks! Fun or feminine or cozy.)

I can accept that people need comfort for their feet when walking or in jobs where you're upright. And yes, I think Crocs and Birkenstocks and most clogs are ugly. But people walk funny in these things. They flap along, like ducks waddling. I keep seeing kids tripping in their mini-Crocs.

The thing with Crocs is, in the beginning I could see how they might come in handy if one were to go on a weekend sailing trip, but then they became this enormous hype and people started to wear them all around me, and pretending they were cool. They're not. They're garish, ugly and cheap; they make your feet look twice their size and I can't help but imagine that they must get smelly too. Plus, as you say, people tend to waddle when they walk in them.

Birkenstocks are ugly in a dowdy kind of way, but I needed new slippers for the summer and they'll do for now (and probably for many summers to come as they seem pretty indestuctible). Also, my feet were hot and achey after pounding the pavement for hours.

I really cannot walk, even around the apartment, in Birkenstocks. I'm all for shoes so ugly they're cute, but I find Crocs and Birks painful to even stand in.

The search for slippers (always) continues for me! I may be stuck with super-cosy socks instead.

Not sure what I'll wear them with, but I've got a couple of days yet to decide ;-)
