On top of which, I'm freezing

1) Take a photo of yourself now, ungussied beforehand, and unedited afterwards. Post it here.

that's me, at the breakfast table, sleep-mussed hair, no makeup, and slightly worried about what I might look like

I suppose I ought to be thankful that my sciatica, which had been threatening to flare up again all through last week, hasn't actually done so until after I returned home from Germany; but it still couldn't have come at a worse time, as I have a job interview lined up for tomorrow. I went to the doctor's yesterday, and got some painkillers, but they're not doing much in the way of actually killing pain, they sort of just blunt the edges of it for a few hours. I'm going to see a physiotherapist later on today, but I'm not holding out much hope that I'll be able to move free of excruciating pain in time for the interview in one of Utrecht's suburbs.

Like a fair number of us women, I think I look better with makeup than without, although as I tend to go for 'the natural look', sometimes I wonder why I bother to put some on at all. But the fact is, I don't feel comfortable leaving home without my slap on. At the very least, I need an egaliser to tone down the reddish tinge I've retained after a bad sunburn 15 years ago, and mascara, to make my long lashes look longer still.

But if there's one thing I'm thankful for, it's the good genes I've inherited from my mother's side of the family - she and all my aunties have had really good healthy skin all their lives, and now when they're in their 70s and 80s, their cheeks still feel soft as baby bottoms.
