Because work was kind of slow yesterday, our manager decided we didn't all need to be there. Since she thought we could all do with an extra day's shopping for Christmas, half the team (of which I was one) was given the day off today, and half will be off tomorrow.

So how did I spend my unexpected holiday? Why, by choosing a new mobile! I am now the proud owner of a Nokia E71, an honest to goodness smartphone, with Internet and full e-mailing capabilities! It's got so many add-ons, it scares me a little -- but I daresay I'll get used to it soon enough.

I still haven't quite made up my mind what I'm going to do for Christmas, whether to take up my sister's invitation or stay in and watch telly, but at least I've stocked up on turkey and vegetables so if I do decide to give the family dinner a miss, I won't be having to make do with a simple sarny instead.

Very cool! It's always nice to have an unexpected day off.

Esp. when it's on full pay, too...;-)

Oh good! So if I don't know how to use mine, I can ask you! ;-)

I don't use the email because it doesn't connevt to Yahoo, and I never did get it to read Office file correctly. It plays Puzzle Bobble quite well though.

Well - one point in this job's favour - she sounds a more human manager than the last one!

Enjoy your Christmas meal whereever you are!

I must admit, I quite like her management style. Because I live furthest away, today she sent me off home an hour earlier, too.

What I like is that you don't have to draw her attention to these sort of things; she just comes up with them as her own ideas.

OTOH, she does expect full dedication to the job though; but she goes about motivating people differently from Jobsworth, and I responfd to her way of doing things much better: in the two months I've been there, I haven't had a confrontation once. With Jobsworth, I had one nearly every day.

He rang the other day, with some sort of cock & bull story about wanting to make sure I was alright and not missing my former job too much. I don't know what his game was, but my contacts at hp tell me I'm well out of there, as the department has gone into a complete shambles and most of my former colleagues have now all left as well.

Oooh! I want a phone with a full keyboard. I have an N95, but it scares me too. :)

Oh, the keyboard is quite easily the most brilliant thing! I don't know how I ever got on without it on my previous phones...
