One day in...

...and I've already come to the realisation that I fail at dieting. How did I do this last time? I can't remember. My excuse is that the weather's turned, and one can't live on cucumbers and tomatoes when skies are grey and hailstorms are about. Maybe next month will be better.

For once, my horoscope proved uncannily correct. It said that all my 'hard work would not go unrewarded'...well, today my manager offered me a promotion, which I was very pleased to accept.

Hurrah for promotion!!

Diet? Pah! We will speak of it no more.

I think that would be best, yes.

Woot! Congratulations on the promotion!

Thanks. It was confirmed to me today by upper management.

I still can't quite believe it. 12 Years in hp and nary a good word said about me; just 6 months in this job and already I've moved up a scope. Finally, I must be doing something right.

Or perhaps you've found an employer who truly appreciates their workers?

I have a lot of luck with Weight watchers - but this year I modified it - no more white flour or potatoes. I'm down 15 lbs since 1/1/09.

It has been a revelation.

I went on the South Beach Diet last time: no bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, bananas or any other kind of fruit, breakfast cereal or anything starchy/carbohydrate-y for two weeks. Instead, all the fish, eggs and lettuce you can eat. Then after those first two weeks are up, you can carefully start to reintroduce all the forbidden items back into your diet, with moderation. It's kept me reasonably slim for a period of 18 months or so, but unfortunatey I've not been paying as much attention to the basic rules of late, and I've gained a few pounds over the winter. It's nothing too dramatic, I still come in at about 70 kilos (or 153 lbs) but the love handles are back and I need to get rid of them before the summer, so it's back to the two weeks of eggs, fish and lettuce I go...as soon as the weather improves.
