Gay Pride

I spent Gay Pride weekend in Amsterdam, which was packed with people and umbrellas. Despite the rain lashing down incessantly, the traditional Canal Boat Parade drew an enormous number of spectators, and the atmosphere was festive and jolly. My friend and I were lucky in finding a spot from which we had a good, almost uninterrupted view of the floats going by, but unfortunately I'd forgotten to bring my camera, even though I'd been meaning to.

We got up early this morning in order to take advantage of the Sunday morning special at his local cinema, and watched Inception at the reduced price of 5 euros. It was good and I enjoyed it, but it's not the sort of film that would have appealed to me at full price.

Isn't that always the way it goes?

It was great fun watching the pride parade pass by, and the people lining the quays all jostling for space and the best view...but I do hope when I go again next year, it won't rain as much. Although the rain didn't really affect the carnival atmosphere as such, it did mean there were a lot of umbrellas going up, and those things can be lethal in such a confined space.
