I've just had cause to look back at some of my earlier entries, and I noticed something: in importing my LJ to DW, the comments haven't all stayed with their proper entries! I can't see a way to fix this, and even if there were I can't see that it would be feasible considering my LJ is 7,5 years old, so I've decided it doesn't really matter -- but it does make for some fun reading ;-)

NB. This entry is cross-posted from Dreamwidth. Why does it not say so at the bottom here, as I've seen it do on other people's journals?

I'm going to randomly comment. It's raining and I feel like it :) Have been away! ... YOU NOTICED! :) .... so have not been reading nor writing LJ :( I see lots of folks have got the DW route - but I know nothing of it - should I learn? Is it better?

your shoe post has comments disabled?! And I was going to impress you with my impulse purchase of a pair of boots pre-theatre Tuesday http://www.johnlewis.com/110603/Style.aspx ... very unlike me! They look nicer in real life and Dead comfy - even for the old gal when they are supposed to be for the "yoof" innit!

Sad to hear the job market is still not seeing your worth - hope that good things are waiting around the corner.

Great hair! V short! ... suits you muchly.

Wow, I like your boots! They do look very comfy and just the ticket for splashing through puddles! Obviously, I haven't been buying any shoes since losing my job, as I have to be sensible about money and not throw it away on frivolities; and as my family keep reminding me, with 100+ pairs I shouldn't need to buy any...but I have to admit, it's been difficult.

Everyone seems to agree that the pixie cut is very me. I just wanted a change, but I'm glad it's turned out well and may keep it like this for a while.

As to the sudden spate of DW-accounts: people got all upset when LJ announced it was now possible to cross-post comments from both locked and unlocked posts to Twitter and Facebook. This meant that if you flocked a post and some Twitter-maniac on your flist thought their response to that post would be worthy of a tweet, in theory whole hordes of people that you didn't know might try to follow the link. Even if they then wouldn't have access to the original post, they would know that you had a journal...and some people like to keep that information private. Hence the exodus to DW.

Me, I just wanted to see how DW differed from LJ (if at all), and to have a bolt hole in case LJ ever imploded. I've tried it before with GreatestJournal and InsaneJournal, but I've let those lapse into dormancy...and I don't particularly feel like reviving them. My DW may go the same way, too...as long as LJ's servers are kept up and running, here's where I'll be, regardless of what bad ideas the developers might come up with next.

+100 pairs??!!! cor + blimey!!!
I should not be surprised should I?

Ah tweetgate - but that's all sorted now? I wish I could stop using twitter - but it's too good a grapevine!

I wish I could stop using Facebook - but some folks are ONLY there.

Which is why I will always be an LJ girl and if it ever implodes??? Maybe DW backup aint such a bad plan!

Maybe DW backup aint such a bad plan!

In that case, you'll need an invitation code. Here's one:

(And yes, I do believe tweetgate is all over and done with...but I'm sure it won't be long before something else will upset the community again).

No worries. Let me know when you're all set up and I'll friend/connect/whatever it's called on DW you.

Love the icon. I really liked that show, the first few seasons...

Maybe you could re-import it? It won't copy entries (I checked this a while ago), but maybe it'd sort out the comments? *is puzzled*

And as for the footer, then this is your place:

(Account settings, other sites) Maybe you've got it disabled? There's also a ticky box at the bottom of the page when you post.)

I hope this helps!

Thanks! I thought ticking the ticky boxes were all there were to it, but evidently I was wrong. Though now that I know that it was all due to a disabled setting, I have to decide whether to enable it, or leave it as it is.

The thing with the comments seems to have happened whenever there's been a post that had comments disabled in LJ...the next comments enabled post would lose its comments to the previous post (where of course they didn't belong). With over 1,500 entries, even if I hardly ever disable comments, that accounts for quite a jumble! Maybe I ought to ask the DW-maintenance people if they've got any ideas...

That might be a good idea, since if it's happened to you, I might have happened to others too. And I presume that the people at DW will want to fix it!

My plan as it stands is to see how much of a problem it really is (in my case), then if re-importing will sort it out; and if it doesn't and it's sizeable enough, put in a support request.
