Over the years, I've seen many of my flist embark on and succesfully conclude 365 projects, and have enjoyed looking at the pictures of their lives and cities. Although I'm not sure that I myself will have the discipline to take and publish a photo every day for a whole year, I've decided that as of today, I will try to do just that.

My first offering: nothing too dramatic, just a swan on the ice. Hopefully in a few months, I'll be able to take its picture while it's gliding across the water in that majestic way swans have.

Yay! I'm so glad you're doing this, and what a great photo for starters. I get envious about swans--we don't have any here

I know how difficult a 365 project can be. I've plenty of photos (I hope) but you see how far behind I am in posting. Maybe we can prop each other up to keep us going.

Only a few hours later, and I'm already regretting my decision! It's a beautiful, clear day out -- but I'm not sure that I'll find something to photograph when I go to the shops later. I may just have been lucky with that swan yesterday.

No swans, but plenty of other photogenic waterfowl on your lake!

I've often worried about waterbirds when the water freezes over. How do the swans survive and stay warm? It's clear they must, but it's always worried me.

Honestly? I don't know...I can't say I've ever really thought about it, but I suppose their feathers must keep them well-insulated against the cold, and like ducks and penguins, the blood in their feet must keep them warm; but as for food...They can probably deal with leaner times for a couple of weeks, and in the towns and villages people will come and feed them, so provided the winters don't last too long I'm sure they'll manage somehow.

But the food humans tend to feed birds (ie, bread) is bad for them. :(

Project 365 is a lot of fun, and yes, it requires quite some discipline. I'm looking forward to your pictures! This one is really cute - swans! <3
