Project 365 - Day 12

Hurrah! My new contact lens has restored the sight in my left eye to 150%, or so the optician assured me - although I'm not sure how that works, exactly. I'm just happy to have a 100% unobstructed view in all directions back again. Also, I've just found out I can claim 80 euros back on my insurance, so I'm well happy...or as happy as anyone can be after they've found themselves 170-odd euros out of pocket through their own carelessness.

Going back to my avian theme, look who's back! Spring surely can't be far off now!

Hurrah for the contact lens - an even bigger hurrah for the money - and I have stork envy.

A quick search on Internet tells me that the white stork's Manx name is 'coar vane', which leads me to believe that they must visit your fair isle, too?

Their Dutch name, incidentally, is 'ooievaar' (oi-yuh-vahr), which apparently means 'marsh-stalker'. I love how the Internet leads me to unearth all this kind of trivia ;-)

They are pretty infrequent visitors - they seem to turn up occasionally in the north of the island and are hailed as rare and unusual.

A stork! You know I saw an aqueduct in Turkey once that was covered in them and their nests. The cacophony! But I'm sure one couple won't be too bad (?)

Glad your new lens arrived. It's good to see.

There are six or seven nests dotted around my neighbourhood. The birds do make a noise, when they greet one another, but it's not constant.
