Nagging JM

I had the strangest dream last night. I dreamt I was JM's personal assistant, and apparently my job consisted of me advising him what to wear. We had the following altercation:

GAMIILA: "What you're going to wear? You woke me up to ask me that? Wear what you bloody well please!"

(JM mutters something unintelligible, goes away and comes back a minute later in his ubiquitous T-shirt, jeans and trainers)

GAMIILA: "That's what you've chosen to wear? Please tell me you brought the kilt! And wear some Docs with it this time!"

(JM changes into the kilt, and promptly falls down the stairs).

Actually the dad (and JM) are the white trainers WITH black socks brigade.

I know, this isn't a hard and fast thing, but if you are, say, going for a run and you have your trainers on and are wearing a pair of shorts, you usually wear WHITE socks. Usually.

The rules don't change if you put a pair of jeans on and are still wearing the same pair of socks.

Probably me being fickle. It's a peeve. I can deal. And this could be a truly american thing with the white socks...oh well.

Oh no, it's global now. When I go through commuter hell in the morning, I encounter numerous men in white terrycloth socks...as well as a fair number of Tweetiebirds or Tasmanian Devils.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned: as far as I'm concerned, white socks are only permissable on a sportsfield, not off it. And Disney socks are a no-no in any given situation.

But occasionally, a man who otherwise adheres to the rules can be allowed to wear something a bit more whimsical, like the stripey socks you mention. Just so long as he doesn't make a habit of it.

And not changing your socks after changing out of your sporting outfit? Ewwww.

Sorry...all these messages are making me lose the plot. I realise now it wasn't you who made the comment about DB's stripey socks. So please forgive me if my earlier reply made you go "what is she on about?" -- still, the rest of it should be pertinent to what you said before...after a fashion, at least ;-)
