Not much to report today, but I'm here so I'd better make the effort.

Jobsworth rang first thing this morning and nearly made me jump out of my skin when I realised that he was actually reading to me from several of my e-mails and asking me what should be done with these and whether he should reply to the senders...all to do with work, but still, he's got access to my e-mail account? I never gave him my passwords and I certainly never gave him permission to have a look in my inbox for any reason! Which means that he's in clear breach of all our privacy laws...it may be my work e-mail address and technically HP property, but I get private mail sent to that address as well and none of my e-mail, whether work-related or otherwise, is any of his business. Just because he's my boss doesn't give him the right to nose around on my hard disk! The more I think about it, the madder I get. I've a good mind to shop him to HR when I go in tomorrow to discuss the terms of my returning to work next week...

Because I am going back to work. Next Thursday, if all goes well. My mouse arm's much improved, and I see no reason to stay home for much longer. I would go back sooner, but I booked a couple of days off as soon as I heard that GotR were coming (Tuesday!). I've been trying to think what to wear for the last few days, but inspiration hasn't struck and I've more or less resigned myself to the thought of showing up in jeans and T-shirt. And trainers...if I'm going to be dancing in the aisles, or even just standing around hoping I can go home soon, I'd better wear comfortable shoes.

Haven't heard from my optician yet -- think I'll go round there in a minute and see if my replacement contact's come in yet.

Jeans and a T-Shirt? Nothing like dressing like the band, eh?

Indeed. Just have to find a nice T-shirt, and a nice pair of jeans now.

God, I don't know; it looks like it's gonna be bloody cold and possibly, raining. I don't want to catch my death hanging around Amsterdam Central Station waiting for the night train back to The Hague.

OTOH, if db2305 is planning to be there with bells on, then of course, so will I.

At least you'd be able to find each other!

Good to hear the arm is healing, though I've got doubts about mine now. It's been a bit achey.

Looking at your emails seems like a violation of your privacy to me too ... wow :-(
On to the good stuff ... Glad your arm's better. Enjoy the show!

Enjoy the show!

Thanks, I intend to. Actually, I'm really starting to look forward to it! And, I just read in the paper that Brad Pitt and George Clooney are currently in Amsterdam filming Ocean's Twelve...who knows, I might get to catch them, too!

Do the comments to your lj go to that email? If so he has probably read everything you've had to say since you've been off, and has your screen name as well.

Jeans and a t-shirt. It just seems so...not you. And tennis shoes (trainers)...I though you were going to wear those beautiful boots you bought awhile back. Of course, if it's going to be raining you wouldn't want to ruin them and would be more...comfortable...wet in jeans.

Yep. That's why I was so concerned -- I couldn't care less that he's reading my project-related mails. He doesn't understand what they're about anyway...but I doubt he'll appreciate the things I've had to say about him on the 'Net lately. Which I really didn't mean to come ouit the way they sounded...Boy, if you're reading this: it's not you: it's another Boy I'm sounding off about entirely! Cross my heart.

Hmmm, I know what you meran. I was looking at tees yesterday and I couldn't find a single one I could imagine myself wearing. So, it's back to the drawing board for me: I've got a few days still. And I did just purchase a nice new skirt in the sales...

I know that some employers go through their employees' computers to make sure that they are doing work and not looking at porn. Though I can't think of a single case that went to court over privacy violations because I think that it's the company's computer. However, I only know U.S. laws.

Have fun at GOTR.

European laws are a lot stricter in that regard, and I know that in Dutch law at least, e-mail comes under the same header as ordinary snail mail. It's private, and only the addressee has the right to look at it and to decide who else gets to see the content. And as a member of the Work Council I know that no manager has the right to break into his employees' e-mail account. Even if they have strong suspicions of wrong-doing by that employee, they'll first have to ask that employee's permission to look at their mail, and if the employee withholds that, and they're still concerned, they'll have to get permission from the Work Council and a (lower court) judge. Which means they'll have to be pretty damn sure of their facts.

Yet another reason to move to Europe.
