Silliness

It's been a while since I did one of these...

speak and spell
You're a Speak & Spell!! You nerd, you. Just
because you were disguised as a toy doesn't
mean you weren't educational, you sneaky
bastard.

What childhood toy from the 80s are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Okay...So, can anybody tell me what a Speak&Spell is/was?

I got this too, but I never had one. It was basically a spelling aid. It said the word and you had to spell it back. It disguised this thinly as a 'game'.

It was really boring.

Sounds like it...It really can't be me, then. Or you, for that matter ;-)

Of course not!

Huh. Did you have to spell it a certain way, i.e. in American English? I must say there ought to be better ways to teach children. Also, as a game, it sounds lacklustre.

I'm not really sure, I never really played, but a friend of had one.

Hmm.

It's just the language major in me that gets out sometimes in a geeky fashion. :-)

Speaking of lacklustre games: I watched a demonstration of a prohibitively expensive new toy in a department store the other day. It was a radio-controlled round thing with flashing lights, roughly the size of a dinner plate, that could hover. And that was all it was capable of doing. I can't imagine any child being taken in by that for more than 2 minutes, but the fathers in the crowd all wanted to have a go and even grew quite competitive. Weird.

Hmm :-)

Well, you were a girl child. Maybe it's a guy thing? ;-)

...and LJ is still screwy...

Love that icon! :-) Is it just me, or does that man have very large hands?

I think it's the picture. His hand didn't strike me as particularly large when he held it out to shake mine the other day...

And I never complimented you on your icon yet, have I? It's very good, esp. for a first effort. It makes me feel like I might want to try making my own soon, too -- just as soon as I have my new PC up and running. Do you need any specialist programmes to get started, do you know?

( the Evil Hand Issues-icon was brought to you by andemaier, BTW).

Tease!

Thanks. :-) Well, I only used MS Paint, but I know that all the serious competetitive iconmakers use programmes and brushes and whatnot for layers and fades and shades and...

_jems_, saava and dtissagirl have tutorials posted in their memories, I think... I can't remember, but I think some use a version of Photoshop Pro or other stuff. _jems_ told me she could hook me up with something, so I'd read what she has posted if I were you.
