Sorry -- moaning again

What is it about fishnet stockings that cause men to turn into obnoxious prats? They never seem to notice if you wear patterned tights, whether they be flowery or covered in geometic shapes, but as soon as you put on a pair of fishnet stockings, every single last one of them feels it necessary to comment...and comment in the most asenine way. I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked whether I'm going fishing/hoping to land a fish today ::shakes head in bewilderment::

I've got a dinner date tonight, but I don't much fancy it -- someone I met while on holiday in Berlin two years ago, and that I didn't think I'd ever see again (and therefore thought it was safe to give them my number). A whole evening of desperately trying to remember how to decline German nouns, pronouns and adjectives, and getting it wrong 9 times out of 10 -- oh why can't Germans, on the whole, learn to speak English like everybody else? It'd make my social life so much more sociable...and I'm sure it would improve theirs as well!

In other news: my last NPI was a total disaster and it looks like the next, that I'm working on now, is going the same way. I should have everything ready and in place for the boffins to start building the database test environment by Friday, but I can't seem to get the bloody product lines to mind their deadlines, so it seems improbable I'm going to meet mine. Who said these people could take their holidays this summer? Thank fuck I set their deadlines early; means I've still got a month to chase them before it becomes really urgent ;-)

BTW, did I ever mention that I have this strange liking for lists, esp. the ones that pop up in LJ-land every so often and that you can adapt to reflect your own life experiences? Well, I've just found another one! I gacked it from paratti, who gacked it from essene:

Bold everything you've done. Then, at the end add five more things - three that you've done, two you wish you've done.

What kind of fencing did you do? dmw is keen on foils.

The épée's my weapon of choice. Of course, when you first take up fencing as a sport, you're made to start on the foil, and so I can wield that quite well, too -- but my heart belongs to the épée. I love the freedom that comes with it -- when fencving on foil, you have to constantly keep all these little rules in mind: is my arm bent or is it straight at the moment of impact? do I have the advantage, or does my opponent? And the target area is so small, too. When you fence on épée though, the whole body is your target, and you don't have to worry about how your arm is positioned at the moment of impact...a hit is a hit.

For a long time, women were barred from fencing on anything but the foil -- then, when they were allowed to fence on épée, they took to it in droves. Finally, and quite recently, they were allowed to fence on sabre as well, and again they flocked to the new weapon in their thousands. Consequently, there are now very few women fencers that fight on épée. I can wield the sabre too, but I like it less than I do the foil even.

My list would be nearly identical to yours, which makes it silly, doesn't it? Just because we're Dutchwomen doesn't mean we're supposed to be similar...Or maybe because we share one insanity (*coughc*BtVS*cough*), we share more...

What does 'tea-time' mean to you, anyway? Dutch tea time? English midlands tea? Upper class tea time?

I was thinking 3:30-4:00 p.m....so yeah, Dutch tea time, with a nice pot of Earl Grey or Lapsang Souchon and a plate of biscuits...mine are the simple pleasures of life...sometimes ;-)

Anyway, are you all set for WriterCon? How long will you be away for? Any definite plans as to what you're going to do when you get there? Who will you hook up with? Are you rooming with anyone? Aargh, too many questions -- you'll have to tell me all about it Saturday; I'm dying of curiosity.

Ehhh...do Verkade Langetjes still exist? I remember they always used to go down well with a pot of tea. But any kind of cookie will do, even Mariakaakjes...
