But while I was away in England, something happened over here to change my mind slightly. The government cancelled, with immediate effect, the so-called Private PC Scheme. For the last two decades, it has been possible to buy a computer through work, and get a tax refund. The scheme was intended to get people PC-literate, but the equipment has to have a work-related purpose. Of course, most people just got them and then had their children play games on them. But this is not the point. The point is, that the computer chains are now stuck with surplus stock, and the expectation is, that as a result of this, prices will go down in the autumn. So, I will just have to wait a little longer, and then I can get myself a state-of-the-art computer and peripherals at knock-down prices!
Oh brave new world that has such a government in it!
